01What it sells and who buys it
Helsing develops defense AI that interprets sensor information and supports operational decisions. It supplies software and autonomous systems to governments and defense-industry customers.
02How the business makes money
Revenue comes from government procurement and development or supply contracts with defense companies. Equipment integration, operational requirements and procurement approval matter more than consumer sign-up conversion.
03Marketing and customer acquisition
Helsing entered defense procurement through existing equipment programs and industrial partners.
- 01
Focus AI on defense applications
SourceHelsing developed AI for defense systems. Government and defense customers require a route from a technical demonstration to equipment integration and delivery.
- 02
Join a German aircraft program with Saab
SourceSelection with Saab for an upgrade to 15 German Eurofighters linked Helsing’s AI to an established equipment supplier and a real procurement program.
- 03
Financing the next stage
SourcePrivate financing supports long development cycles and production. A 2026 founder profile reports a company valuation of about $18 billion. That equity valuation is distinct from cash personally realized by the founder.
How the growth mechanism works
- Identify operational requirements
- Work with defense partners
- Validate on existing equipment
- Expand through procurement
Operational performance and procurement relationships matter more than app installs. Saab connects the technology to equipment programs. A small number of large contracts can support growth, but qualification and delivery create a different timeline from consumer software.

More about the founding and key events
Founded in 2021, Helsing develops AI and related systems for defense. Cofounder Niklas Köhler was 35 in 2026; the other founders were in different age groups. Forbes reported a valuation of roughly $18 billion in July 2026 and estimated Köhler’s wealth at $2.3 billion in September.
Partnerships with established defense companies form part of its sales approach. In 2023, Helsing announced that it and Saab had been selected for an upgrade program covering 15 German Eurofighters. The partnership connected AI capabilities with an existing equipment supplier and government customers.
Government procurement, integration with existing systems and operational capability shape this market. A small number of customers can generate large contracts, but the testing and relationships required to win those contracts differ substantially from consumer app distribution.
